RMT are now IMI certified for F-gas training

Refrigerant Handling Training

RMT are pleased to annouce we are now able to deliver assessment for F-Gas Qualification - specifically IMI Level 3 Award in Automotive Refrigerant Handling (EC842-2006).

All Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) technicians working with cars and car derived vans, must have achieved as a minimum requirement, a refrigerant handling qualification which fulfils the European Union F-gas Regulation (EC842/2006 and Annex to Regulation EC307/2008).

RMT can provide an on-site option which involves less cost and disruption. On request we can issues a full pack detailing the preparation work. Contact our office for pricing and to organise the training for you or your staff.

Assessment

The assessment starts by measuring the candidate’s underpinning knowledge, including F Gas regulations. Learners must demonstrate the learning outcomes by following and achieving two assessment components which are set by IMI:

  • Practical assessment
  • External online test

Why offer air con services?

In the motor industry, over two thirds of vehicles manufactured today come with air conditioning and climate control systems as standard.

Many drivers experience the benefits of air con in their car or van on a hot day but just like any other component in your vehicle system, air conditioning systems also needs attention to ensure it continues to work efficiently and effectively.

You may not be aware that over 10% of air-con gas permeates from the air-con system every year, which means the overall performance is decreased and won’t work as well as it should. This is the reason car manufacturers recommend your air conditioning system is recharged with refrigerant and lubricant every 2 years.

The air conditioning recharge/service is not included in a vehicle service package so if it hasn’t been attended to or the vehicle is over 2 years old, then it is probably due an air conditioning service.

The machines have a built-in database (which yearly can be updated) to ensure:

  • Air conditioning refrigerant recharge is done to manufacturers requirements
  • Replenishment of oil in system (lubricates all seals to reduce corrosion in the system)
  • UV dye can also be added to help identify leaks present in the air con system
  • Vacuums the systems to remove moisture from system to prevent blockages on recharge

The potential earning from supplying air conditioning from your garage/having it mobile is very promising and it is a very good addition for any garage to have the facility to provide as an additional service.

The machines we supply have an automatic cycle so they can be left unattended and reduce the man hours spent with the machine so other duties can be carried out instead of watching over it.
